Common Hackberry

Form: Weakly pyramidal; in old age the crown is a broad top of ascending, arching branches

Soil Tolerances: Prefers rich, moist soils, but grows in dry, heavy or sandy, rocky soils, and withstands acid or alkaline conditions.

Size: 2-5" long.

Zone: 3 to 9.
Leaves: Dull light-med green.
Bark: Grayish w/characteristic corky warts of ridges, later turning to scales.

Drought or Heat Tolerant: High drought tolerance.

Growth Rate: Med-fast, 20-30' over a 10-15 year period.
Description: Fleshy, yellow, orange-red to dark purple 1/3" diameter born on a 1-2" long pedicel, ripening in Sept-Oct. Flavored like dates, the seed are relished by birds and wildlife alike.
