Form: Large shrub to small tree. Loose and unruly.

Size: 15 to 20 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide.

Leaves: Deciduous. Rich green summer foliage.

Bark: Twisted and gnarled trunks with rough bark.

Fruit: 6 to 12 inch long 2 valved capsule. Long and stringy.

Flowers: Flowers occur on new growth in mid-summer.

Growth Rate: Slow to medium

Description: This southern tree is grown as a multi-stemmed shrub to small tree with Orchid-like summer blooms.
