The 59th annual Garden Writers Association (GWA) Symposium toured around Oklahoma, and made a stop to visit Deep Fork Tree Farm on September 30, 2007 at 4:45 pm. GWA is an organization that focuses in the communication of all things botanical, be it horticultural, gardening, or environmental. The overall goal of the non-profit organization is to provide a common ground in which garden professionals can communicate with one another, as well as provide leadership and educational opportunities for career development. With over 1800 professionals in the lawn and garden industry, GWA provides the forum that is necessary for the members to interact directly, allowing the communication industry (writers, authors, photographers, television and radio, publishers, and landscape designers) to coalesce with the garden industry.
The Symposium began on Friday, September 28th,
visiting the garden hotspots of Oklahoma, and made sure to stop by and have a memorable Sunday evening with Deep Fork Tree Farm. The tour of the farm included a hay ride through the beautiful campus of deciduous and evergreen trees that are ideally situated within proximity to both Coffee Creek River and the grand Deep Fork River. The tour continued to the south through the breathtaking landscape of Arcadia Farm, which allowed a sense of calm to overcome all who experience the pleasure. Throughout the tour, multiple stops were made to taste Oklahoma delicacies of food and drink, emphasizing the reason why the
phrase ‘Oklahoma Pride’ is commonly heard throughout the state.
At the conclusion of the tour, Deep Fork Tree Farm had a delicious cuisine from local gardens, farms, cheese makers, bakeries, and creameries. The meal consisted of a caesar salad with homemade croutons, slow roasted Wichita buffalo short ribs, sicilian chicken with Guilford Garden eggplant, asiago polenta, roasted Sunrise Acres sweet potatoes with fresh thyme, vegetarian lasagna, Farrell Family organic bread with Wagon Creek Creamery butter. Dessert included individual apple pies with caramel, individual pecan pies with whipped cream, lemon curd tartlettes, and chocolate mousse tartlettes. The table was set to showcase the Oklahoma menu, allowing visitors to savor and enjoy the pleasure of great food and drink.
In order for the out-of-towners to experience as much of Oklahoma that is possible, Deep Fork Tree Farm provided entertainment on a scale that can be unmatched, creating an evening that was truly a night to remember. The country singer, Ty England, an Oklahoman that's "Alive and Well and Livin' the Dream" performed while we danced away the night, wrapping up the memorable evening.
Deep Fork Tree Farm would love to extend a most appreciative thank you to all the volunteers that made this wonderful evening a success and truly a time that will be remembered forever.
