Staking:  The primary reasons for staking trees are to maintain and establish laser straight tree trunks, prevent against wind sweep, maintain and create straight leaders within the tree canopy and to create strong anchoring of the primary and secondary roots. Stakes are chosen based solely on their intended purposes, making sure we use the right tool for the right job. To achieve these primary goals, many different techniques are employed dependent on the trees’ needs.  Initially we use highly flexible fiberglass stakes to build trunk taper and develop a strong anchoring root system, and later on we apply extensions to the top of the trees that have outgrown the length of the stakes and some trees need something more than a simple stake, such as a guy wire system.
